Travelling
from East to West along Aurelia road, between Finale
and Pietra, once passed Caprazoppa cape, there is another
small but fascinating Riviera centre: Borgio Verezzi.
Verezzi is the high part, still immersed in the vegetation
of almond trees, carob trees and olive trees with typical
Mediterranean terrace houses. This centre has gained
an important place in National artistic panorama, being
a site of an important theatre festival. Tourists can
admire, besides complete structure of the centre, narrows
passages, little bridges amongst buildings (built to
avoid pirates attacks) , several churches and the famous “piazzetta”.
On the hill still exists one of rarest Fenici mills.
Naturally, besides culture and nature, Borgio Verrezi
is well-known for beach tourism. The locality can be
easily reached by car (highway exits of Pietra and
Finale), by train and by plane (airports of Genoa,
Nice and Villanov ad'Albenga; at respectively 65, 122
and 23 kilometres from Borgio Verezzi). For sea and
diving fans there is the bank of Borgio Verezzi (from
Rio Fine to Rio Bottassano): a rock platform full of
clefts used as refuge by sea flora and fauna. Absolutely
to visit the Caves of Valdemino, discovered by three
young boys in the years around 1930.Then in 1951 began
a systematic exploration and started works to make
the site accessible to visitors. First guided visit
dated to 1970. |
